AMD's white paper for its 6th Gen EPYC 9006 "Venice" CPUs claims up to 2.24x NVIDIA's Vera in SPECrate 2026 Integer, though the estimated figures face methodology caveats.
AMD has released a white paper detailing its 6th Gen EPYC 9006 "Venice" server CPUs, and the document takes direct aim at NVIDIA's Vera platform. The headline claim: in SPECrate 2026 Integer, the 256-core flagship EPYC 9996 delivers 2.24 times the platform-level performance of an 88-core Vera system. A 96-core, high-frequency Venice chip is claimed to be 1.2 times faster per core.
Against Intel, the comparison is even starker. AMD reports the Venice parts beat the Xeon 6980P by 2.4x to 3.7x across server-side Java, OpenSSL, MongoDB, Redis, NGINX and transaction processing workloads. In HPC-style tests, including GROMACS, the claimed advantage reaches up to 3.13x.
These are first-party figures, so buyers should treat them with caution. Neither AMD nor NVIDIA can publish official SPEC results yet, meaning every number in the paper is an estimate. The Vera baselines are drawn from NVIDIA's own white paper, and the 96-core Venice part is actually an EPYC 9996 with several of its cores disabled. On per-subtest results, AMD ran GCC 16.1 against GCC 15.2 on the NVIDIA side — a compiler-version mismatch that Tom's Hardware flags as contrary to best practice. The 2.24x headline also pits a 512-thread flagship against Vera's 176 threads, so it is not a like-for-like matchup.
AMD states that Venice is in production, with major OEM platforms on track to launch and cloud providers beginning deployments later this year. Even so, the vendor-published numbers will likely remain contested until independent reviewers can put both chips on the same test bench — the only setting in which a definitive answer on the Venice-versus-Vera question is likely to emerge.
