Microsoft's revamped Copilot merges projects and AI agents into a single workspace and now supports third-party frontier models through the company's Frontier Program.
Microsoft is overhauling Copilot, repositioning its AI assistant as a single, unified workspace in which a user's projects and AI agents coexist rather than sitting apart. The redesigned Copilot also adds support for third-party frontier models, and the updated experience is available now through Microsoft's Frontier Program.
The central change is structural. Instead of positioning Copilot as a discrete chatbot or a single-purpose helper, Microsoft is consolidating the assistant into one environment where ongoing projects and AI agents are mixed together. Work in progress and the agents acting on a user's behalf effectively share the same surface, collapsing what had been separate modes of interaction into a single continuous space.
The second pillar is model support. Copilot will be able to run on third-party frontier models, extending the assistant beyond any single in-house model family. That reframes Copilot less as a showcase for one company's technology and more as a workspace layer capable of hosting frontier-class AI from multiple developers — a meaningful posture for the product at the center of Microsoft's AI efforts.
Availability is immediate. The revamped Copilot can be accessed now through the Frontier Program, which serves as the delivery channel for the update. For readers tracking the AI platform and compute landscape, the redesign carries a twofold signal: Microsoft is unifying how users work with projects and agents, and it is opening the assistant's model layer to outside frontier models. Wider model support inside a workspace with Copilot's reach is the kind of change that shapes where inference workloads — and the accelerator demand behind them — gravitate next.
