Google's Home MCP server lets AI agents monitor devices, review event history and execute controls, rolling out in English to Google Home Premium Advanced users in the US.
Google switched on early access to Home MCP on September 16, 2026, extending its smart home platform to AI agents. Home MCP is a Model Context Protocol server that allows agents to keep tabs on devices, consult event history and carry out control actions across the Google Home ecosystem. The initial rollout covers English-language access for Google Home Premium Advanced users in the United States.
The announcement appeared on the Google Home & Nest Community blog in a post signed by Taylor, Group Product Manager for Google Home & Nest. According to that post, any agent that supports calling MCP tools can be wired into the server, effectively turning household hardware into a set of callable functions for any compatible agent client.
The capability bundle is broad. Device monitoring, event-history review and control execution together give an agent both awareness and actuation: it can read the state of connected hardware, understand what has happened over time and then act. Event history is particularly significant for agentic use, because routines such as automation, anomaly detection or scheduled behavior depend on temporal context rather than a single snapshot of device status.
The commercial gating is equally telling: availability is attached to the Google Home Premium Advanced subscription tier and confined to US users working in English for now. For the broader agent ecosystem, a first-party MCP server from Google gives developers a concrete reason to build tool-calling support into their agents, since home control is among the most tangible consumer applications of agentic AI. Whether access broadens beyond the United States and the Premium Advanced tier will shape how widely Home MCP is adopted.
