Sony expands its PlayStation audio lineup with two new PS5 wireless headsets, the Pulse and Pulse Edge, promising upgrades in sound quality, comfort and AI noise rejection.
Sony has broadened its PlayStation audio lineup with the unveiling of two new wireless headsets for the PlayStation 5: the PlayStation Pulse and the PlayStation Pulse Edge. Both models promise upgrades across sound quality, comfort, and AI noise rejection, positioning them as the next step in a console audio strategy that the previous-generation Pulse Elite has already laid the groundwork for.
The most conspicuous hardware change is acoustic. Per the report, the new headsets bring bigger planar drivers together with active noise cancellation. Planar-magnetic designs move a thin diaphragm across its full surface rather than pushing it from a single voice coil, an approach more often found in premium headphones than in console peripherals. Their arrival in a first-party PlayStation accessory line reflects how quickly expectations for console audio have climbed.
The second pillar is AI noise rejection, which the source says both headsets promise. Machine-learning microphone processing of this kind is built to separate a speaker's voice from ambient background sound, and it has become a differentiator across consumer audio hardware. That Sony is promoting the feature alongside acoustic upgrades suggests computational audio is now a headline selling point for PlayStation accessories rather than a footnote.
For readers who track the AI hardware economy, the launch is a modest but representative data point. AI-branded features continue migrating into mass-market peripherals, widening the footprint of on-device intelligence beyond phones and PCs. Sony's progression from the Pulse Elite to the Pulse and Pulse Edge also shows that competition in console accessories increasingly turns on signal processing and noise handling as much as on raw driver engineering.
