The global semiconductor industry has posted its largest quarter on record. New research from Omdia puts worldwide revenue above $425 billion for the second quarter of 2026, marking another all-time high for the market. The sequential expansion of 31.4% quarter-over-quarter stands as the steepest ever recorded, overtaking the prior benchmark of 29.2% growth logged just one quarter earlier in 1Q26.
According to Omdia's analysis, artificial intelligence demand and elevated memory pricing remain the dominant dynamics shaping the market. Memory continues to act as the primary driver of growth, but the rally is not confined to that segment: other semiconductor components are expanding at rates above typical seasonal patterns and are contributing meaningfully to the strength of the overall market.
Historical context underlines how unusual the current cycle is. Since Omdia began tracking the semiconductor market in 1Q02, only 10 of the 97 quarters on file have delivered sequential revenue growth above 10%. The present run defies that history: each of the last four quarters, beginning with 3Q25, has recorded double-digit sequential growth. Growth of this magnitude on a sequential basis has therefore been rare across more than two decades of Omdia's data.
Momentum is expected to carry forward, with 3Q26 anticipated to follow the same double-digit trend. Cumulative revenue for the first half of 2026 has now reached $752 billion, a figure that reflects how AI demand and firm memory prices are compounding across the industry. The data points to a market running at record scale and record speed simultaneously.
